Safer Roads by DesignTM

The incidence of road crashes continues to rise at an alarming rate, and is now a leading cause of death

among young adults. A relatively small number of well-known factors influence serious injury risk across the main crash configurations. The challenge is therefore to deliver locally applicable knowledge resources and applied practices on traffic injury risk diagnosis and reduction to ensure road safety programs and investments are adequately dimensioned and targeted.

“Safer Roads by Design” is a program developed by IRF aimed at delivering practical pathways to improved road safety performance through measures that focus on the risk factors and road deficiencies that lead to severe and fatal injuries. As part of the program, participants are exposed to complementary aspects of safe road and roadside management, including the correct selection and application of safety equipment based on site conditions.
